Artist of the Year at the Victorian Artist Society 2024






I am excited to share with you all that I have been invited to be one of the finalists in The Victorian Artists Society’s Hylton Mackley - Artist of the Year Exhibition.


This impressive exhibition features artworks by select Victorian Artists Society artists, who have been invited to participate after receiving the highest number of votes from their peers during three seasonal Selection Exhibitions over the course of the year. Finalists are invited to exhibit up to three pieces, one large and two smaller pieces. This is a prestigious award and very much sort after.


The following prizes are given for the AOTY Award Exhibition:

*Prize money for 2024 will be $12,000 with an increase in value to 2035 when the prize money is planned to reach circa $23,000. In addition to the prize money the Artist of the Year will receive a trophy, a framed certificate, and an invitation to hold a solo exhibition in the Cato Gallery, with commission on sales.

*The Members’ Choice Award, sponsored by 'U do Website Builder' is a free website to the value of $1650. This is awarded to the artist gaining the most votes from non-exhibiting members throughout the year.

*The Noel Waite AO Exhibitors’ Choice Award is a $500 prize awarded to the artist gaining the most votes from the exhibiting members who are exhibiting in the Artist of the Year exhibition.


This is all very exciting and it is an honor to be invited to participate in this prestigious award for 2024. I invite you all to come along to the opening night and if not the opening, come and view the exhibition that runs from the 8th November to the 25th November 2024 to see the many fabulous drawings and paintings that will be on show and for sale.

VAS Spring Select Show 2024

The Spring Exhibition for 2024 is just around the corner at the Victorian Artist Society. This show is one of the three Select exhibitions held each year by the VAS. Votes cast by exhibiting artists are used to decide the list of candidates for the Artist of the Year Award Exhibition. Below is my entry for the exhibition and it is simply titled Hydrangeas. I have always had a love of Hydrangeas, particularly the blue variety. Perhaps that is because they were the variety that we had in our garden, but all varieties of hydrangeas are pretty, don't you think? We had them on the farm on the shady side of the house when I was growing up. When I think about the hydrangea flower or see them out and about, I think of the farm where I grew up, Mum's beautiful garden and the happy memories I had growing up there. It's Not Too Late!

Hi Everyone, if you hadn't had the chance to see the VAS Winter Select and 9x5 Exhibitions at the Victorian Artists Society, it's not too late! However, this is the last weekend to do so for both. Both shows finish on the 5th August. There are some fabulous pieces on show and for sale, so I encourage to make your way to the Vic's. There you'll be able to see some high quality art work and also grap a coffee at has VAS cafe. Below is my entry into the Winter Show, Flowing Tree Roots. Not really sure what type of tree it was, but the more I looked at the tree I kept on thinking of a lady with a long flowing dress sitting on a wall. The tree and it's roots, I thought were almost elegant. As usual, I was drawn to the details and enjoyed being lost in the drawing of them onto paper them.
